A Mommy's Love follows a gentle journey through the natural world — a sea turtle who trusts the tide, a seahorse father who carries what his partner cannot, a bunny who protects from a careful distance — and into human homes, where love looks just as varied: two moms, a grandmother's steady care, a chosen family, a father's whole heart, and a mother who is loved and remembered long after she's gone.

Written by a licensed clinical social worker, it's a book for grade-school children and the grown-ups reading beside them — especially families navigating loss, distance, or a shape of love the world doesn't always name.

About the Author

Greer Dear, LCSW

Greer Dear is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She works as a therapist, providing virtual support to individuals, couples, and families — and wrote A Mommy's Love to help fill a real gap: honest, age-appropriate ways to talk with children about the hardest parts of family life. Greer is a mother, a partner, and a devoted dog and cat mom, and hopes to grow her reach in support of children and families through literature that is honest, kind, and inclusive.

Why I wrote this book

Themes of death, abuse, loss, and other heavy truths aren't reserved for adults, no matter how much we wish they were. In my work, I've sat face-to-face with children who have experienced the unimaginable — and they are still children. They deserve to be played with, read to, and talked with about their experiences, especially the hard ones. A Mommy's Love is meant to serve as a gentle pastime, a thoughtful gift, or a steady anchor for grade-school-age children navigating difficult topics.
